The British School of Alexandria was established in 1984 in the grounds of the British Consulate. Located in the residential district of Roushdy, The school benefits from easy access to local resources. Over the past 28 years it has expanded onto two further sites and now educates around 300 students from more than 20 different countries. The British School of Alexandria is a member of BSME and an Associate Member of COBIS. The School is overseen by a Board of Governors who represent a broad spectrum of Alexandrian life, and includes the Leadership Team.
The School aims to offer the highest quality of British-style education to the local and expatriate communities; the students range from the ages of 3 to 18. Our youngest pupils are taught at Mina Villa where Foundation Stages 1 and 2, along with Years 1 and 2 are nurtured in warm and caring surroundings. The children use some of the facilities of our adjoining Secondary school, including the hard sports court and assembly hall. Years 3 to 6 are housed at Main Site which also contains the administration offices and Bursary. Year 7 to 13 are taught at the Secondary school which is a short walk from Main Site.
At The British School of Alexandria, the working day is 7.45 am – 3.45 pm so that teachers are in school at least 30 minutes before the start of lessons, and are available after school for meetings. Dependant on the Key Stage, teachers normally have a teaching timetable of around 80-85%, depending on subjects and levels taught, and other responsibilities. We aim for all teachers to have some non-contact time during each day. Teachers are expected to do playground and lunchtime duties, on a rota basis. They may also be required to cover for absent colleagues. The school year runs from the beginning of September to the end of June.
All teachers are expected to communicate with the students in English at all times, except in language classes.
